The Area The village is half-way along a peninsula which ends in Le Croisic. To one side is the sea and beaches and to the other side are the salt marshes. These are still worked by the paludiers , using methods unchanged for 1000 years. The area is rich in bird life and flora and the light over the salt marshes, if you are a painter, is wonderful and constantly changing. Le Croisic - fishing port and popular marina. Very attractive small town. Terminus for high speed train (TGV) from Paris. Guérande - beautiful, medieval walled city, a few miles inland. Big market on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the season. Le Pouliguen - a fishing and pleasure port at the mouth of the river which separates it from La Baule. A very pleasant place to have lunch with a good beach. La Baule - miles of very beautiful beach (which stretches as far as Pornichet). Expensive shops, discos and some sophistication. Parc de la Brière - A freshwater marshland of hundreds of acres – a national park. Boats are available to take you along the waterways. You can load bicycles into the car to ride when you get there. La Turballe - One of France’s most important sardine ports. You can cycle across the salt marshes (or drive!) to get there. Fun when the trawlers come in at high tide. Buy your sardines and take them home to barbeque. |
